What does VUCA stand for? VUCA is an acronym. It stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous.

Volatile

Uncertain

Complex

Complexity refers to the number of factors to consider, their diversity, their relationships and interconnectedness. Under high complexity, it is impossible to fully analyze the environment and come to rational conclusions. The more complex the world, the more difficult it is to analyze.

Ambiguous

Ambiguity refers to a lack of clarity as to how something should be interpreted. A situation is ambiguous, when information is incomplete or contradictory and refers to vagueness in ideas and terminology. The more ambiguous the world, the more difficult it is to interpret.

In real life, the four terms are interrelated. Because there is a high degree of rapid change, uncertainty, complexity and vagueness, it is increasingly difficult to make detailed middle long or long term plans.
