Why you might want to consider
I truly believe whether you’re someone who’s just entering the workforce or a company leader who wants to develop the talent already in your roster, career planning benefits every professional!
What is Career Planning?
Proper career planning is based on the definition of professional goals – the future’s aspirations. Therefore, it’s your opportunity by making the conscious choice to invest in this process. It’s about YOU determining how you want to invest your time & skills in a way that is emotionally satisfying, leverages your strengths, and is reflective of your financial needs or circumstances.
Your Aspiration
It also includes defining the steps that will bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be, meaning your aspiration. As such you create a road map that takes you from choosing a career to finding your first job all the way to achieving your long-term career goals.
According to the so-called "Cone-shaped" model of E. Shine, the career develops in three directions:
Professionals who gain clarity about changes they should make to their current reality often feel empowered to take that promotion or make a lateral move into a different organization or industry. I see 4 main building blocks in the Career Planning process:
Ø Self-assessment: is your career consistent with your personal values, interests and beliefs? Do you recognize personal satisfaction, enrichment and happiness in your life through work? Are you further developing functional & transferable skills? What impact do you want to have on the business world? How can you take control of your career?
Ø Career exploration: do you possess the right education, experience, abilities. Have you set clear direction for further professional development, meeting the necessary conditions to create and your career development.
Ø Career identification: you are empowered to identify the occupation that you are most interested in, the one you intent to pursue. You start to prepare to enter your chosen field by identifying the requirements to enter with success.
Ø Create a plan of actionable strategies: in your action plan you have identified your short-term and long- term goals, education and training requirements for your career. You also develop a job search strategy, identify potential employers, create a resume, compose cover letters, and prepare for job interviews.
The process not only helps you realize your potential according to your abilities, but makes it also far more likely for you to succeed in achieving the set goals.
If you would like to partner with me in this process, I can help you bridge the gap where you are to where you are going.
